The  Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission (OAC) is the primary funding source for the Sooner Flight Academy Partial Scholarships.  Each year, the OAC grants institutions like the Sooner Flight Academy funding from their Education Grant.  If you would like to learn more about the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission, please visit their website (  Private donors also contribute to the Sooner Flight Academy Scholarship fund.

Partial scholarships are only available for our Summer Camp Programs.

Sooner Flight Academy partial scholarships are based on need but have no pre-determined income requirements.  The only eligibility requirement for a summer camp partial scholarship is to be registered for a session of summer camp.  We cannot consider any partial scholarship applications without a corresponding summer camp registration.

While the goal of the Scholarship Selection Committee is to make it possible for as many campers to attend as possible, applicants are not guaranteed to receive any scholarship assistance for camp.  The scholarship selection committee will consider financial need and/or extenuating circumstances when determining awards.  

During the camp registration process, you will be given the opportunity to tell us you wish to apply for a scholarship.  Once you have registered for a session of summer camp, a link to the scholarship will be available from your parents page (click the parents tab at the top).  Look for "Request Scholarship" in the menu on the left side.

Summer Camp registration begins March 1st.  The partial scholarship applications will open at that time.  The partial scholarship application deadline is May 1st.  NO applications will be accepted after May 1st.  

You will need to have ready the following information to complete the application form:

  • Camp Session registered for (from your summer camp registration confirmation email)
  • Camper’s full name
  • Number of people in household
  • Household adjusted gross income for last year
  • Description of family circumstances (why you are requesting scholarship assistance to pay for summer camp)
  • Email address of an educator who can write a recommendation for your child (an email will be sent automatically inviting this educator to add a recommendation to your child's application)

Your child should convey to the scholarship selection committee, in some creative way, why he/she wants to come to camp.  This could be an essay, poem, story, picture, diorama, etc.   You can provide this to us by any means appropriate.  If it is available as a computer file (or can be scanned), it can be uploaded and attached to the application.  This is the preferred method.  If the piece is a physical work, you can drop it by our office.  We recommend calling ahead of time (405-325-1635) to make sure someone is here to accept it.

The Scholarship Selection Committee will meet during the first week of May.  If you have been awarded a partial scholarship, you will be notified by email or phone before May 15th.  We require a written acceptance (by USPS, fax, or email) to apply the partial scholarship to your account.  If we do not receive a written acceptance within 7 days, your partial scholarship will be awarded to another applicant.  Scholarships are applied directly to your camp balance.  The parent or responsible party will be billed for the remaining balance due.

If you cannot attend summer camp with the amount awarded and need additional scholarship funds to attend, please include that in your acceptance/declination response.  This does not automatically cancel your registration.  If you choose to cancel your registration, please see Summer Camp FAQ about cancelling your registration.
