FAQ

You may enroll online by visiting our summer camp page at flightcamp.ou.edu/en/summer-camp/.  Please select a camp session based on how old your child(ren) will be on June 1st.  Registration opens March 1st,  When registering online, please have your credit card ready for payment.  You can also register over the phone with the Outreach Registration and Records department by calling (405) 325-6808.   Payment may be made by credit card or by check. 

You can be added to the waiting list for a full Summer Camp session by going through the normal registration process and selecting the camp session that you want.  It should indicate WAITLIST.  You will be charged the $25 application fee which will be refunded in the event a spot never opens up.  If a spot does open and you decline to fill it, your $25 application fee will not be refunded.  Each camp session is capped at 24 participants.

Yes.  You will need to pay the non-refundable $25 application fee and the camp tuition fee in full.  You can pay the registration fee and camp tuition fee when you register online at https://flightcamp.ou.edu/en/summer-camp/ .  You can also register and pay for summer camp fees by phone by calling the Outreach Registration and Records department at (405) 325-6808. 

If you have already registered for Summer Camp and would like to cancel your registration, please send an email to flightcamp@ou.edu with that request.  You may also send a cancellation request by US mail to Sooner Flight Academy, 1928 Goddard Ave, Norman, OK 73069.  Cancellation requests MUST be made in writing.  You may be eligible for a refund (excluding the non-refundable $25 application fee) if you cancel registration more than 7 days prior to the camp.  If you cancel 7 days or fewer prior to the camp, you will receive a refund minus the $25 application fee and a $100 cancellation fee.  No refunds will be given for cancellations requested after the camp has started.  Please allow 4-6 weeks to process any refunds.

For campers registered for Extended Day Curriculum, Monday morning sign-in begins at 7:30 a.m.  Drop-off for Extended Day Curriculum on Tuesday through Friday will be from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.  The building will not be open before 7:30 a.m.  Extended Day campers must be escorted into the building by a parent/guardian each day if dropped off prior to 8:15 a.m.  The camp program begins each day at 8:30 a.m.  You may sign your child out of Summer Camp anytime during any day (there will be no refunds for less than full day attendance).  The camp program will end at 3:30 p.m.  If you pick up your child before 3:15 p.m., you must sign your camper out the designated camp staff. You can pick up your child any time from 3:45 p.m. until 5 p.m. by coming into the building and signing out with the camp staff member on duty.  If you do not pick up your child by 5 p.m., University policy requires us to notify OUPD.  On Friday, graduation starts at 2:45 p.m. and will last until 3:30 p.m.  There is no Extended Day Curriculum on Friday afternoon.

For campers registered for Normal Day Curriculum, Monday morning sign-in begins at 8a.m.  Drop-off for Normal Day Curriculum on Tuesday through Friday will be from 8:15 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. in the drive-thru lane.  The camp program begins each day at 8:30 a.m.  You may sign your child out of Summer Camp anytime during any day (there will be no refunds for less than full day attendance).  The camp program will end at 3:30 p.m.  If you pick up prior to 3:15 p.m., you must sign your camper out with the designated camp staff.  You can pick your camper up from 3:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. in the drive-thru lane. You must have a photo I.D. to pick your child up.   If you drop your camper off before 8:15 a.m. or pick them up after 3:45 p.m. you will be charged for the Extended Day Curriculum Fee of $50.  On Friday, graduation starts at 2:45 p.m. and will last until 3:30 p.m.  There is no Extended Day Curriculum on Friday afternoon.

Yes, partial scholarships are available for Summer Camp.  Scholarships are not available for extended day curriculum.  You must be registered for a session of Summer Camp to apply for a partial scholarship.  Please visit the scholarships tab on our website for information on how to apply https://flightcamp.ou.edu/en/scholarships/.

Please note the partial scholarship application deadline has been moved to April 1st.  No applications will be accepted after April 1st. 

Because of university insurance requirements, certain FAA regulations, and grant requirements, we require campers to register for the camp according to age.  The age cutoff is June 1st.  If your camper’s birthday is after June 1st, please register him/her for the younger camp.  You may register for a camp that is up to one year younger than your camper.  If your camper has already attended the oldest camp he/she is eligible for, please email us at flightcamp@ou.edu and describe your circumstances.  We try to avoid campers attending the same camp twice.

Summer Camp at Sooner Flight Academy is an action-packed five days of hands-on activities teaching students that science is fun!  Camps are filled with activities and materials that are developmentally appropriate for each age and staffed by college students who have backgrounds in aviation, science and/or education. Every camper will experience being upclose to OU's fleet of Training Aircraft and Certified Flight Instructors.  If weather conditions and aircraft availability permit, campers aged 8 and above participate in educational orientation flights in those training aircraft with  flight instructors.  Campers also learn about Newton’s Laws of Motion, the Bernoulli Principle and many other aspects of aviation.  All campers will build and launch model rockets (weather permitting).  For a more detailed list of activities, click on any summer camp event on our upcoming events page.

You must be a faculty or staff member at the University of Oklahoma, or a full-time student at the University of Oklahoma to receive the member rate. Please login using your OU 4x4.  If you are located at the Health Science Center, be sure to use your OUHSC email address when you login to register.  Members receive a $100.00 discount per child registered.
