The OU Sooner Flight Academy facilitates the growth of aviation and technology using experiential education to empower learners of all ages in science, math, and technology through the exciting world of flight!

Summer Camps

The OU Sooner Flight Academy camps challenge students ages 6-18 to learn scientific and mathematic principles using aviation education. Through hands-on activities, students experience the effects of science, math, engineering and technology as they participate in exciting aviation activities during flight camp.

School Programs and Field Trips

These interactive aviation/aerospace science programs are brought to the school site or students come to the Sooner Flight Academy campus located in Norman, Oklahoma at the OU Max Westheimer Airport.

Aviation education incorporates team building and cooperative learning to teach:

  • principles of flight
  • aerodynamics
  • aerial navigation
  • general math and science
  • Newton's Laws
  • aircraft instrumentation
  • Bernoulli's Principle
  • materials science
  • history of flight

 

Youth Summer Camps

The OU Sooner Flight Academy camps are non-residential day camps that run Monday through Friday during the summer. The camps are arranged according to ages 6-18 with suitable hands-on activities that allow each student to explore the wonderful world of science through aviation education. Students bring a sack lunch and a drink each day to enjoy with their fellow campers and their OU pilot instructor. A camp T-shirt, photo and all program materials are provided. Students enrolled in Pilots through Flight Zone receive airplane rides in OU's fleet of Piper Warriors. (Weather permitting)

Youth School Programs

A variety of full and half day school outreach programs are available through OU Sooner Flight Academy. These engaging programs can be brought to your school site or students can come to the OU Max Westheimer Airfield where the exciting world of flight is in operation, giving a real-world perspective to math and science.

Ticket to Tomorrow is a proven aviation/aerospace outreach program designed to strengthen math and science skills of school-age children in grades three to six. Students play the roles of pilots, astronauts, and engineers as they complete the learning objectives at each of the four learning stations of a futuristic space environment.
